Deputies said a courtroom outburst inside the Hall of Justice led to a suspect being Tased after they said he assaulted them.WLKY obtained exclusive video of the tense moments before and during the incident.”He said he wants to put his hands on me, and I’m going to sue him and make sure I get him in custody, and he won’t bother me anymore,” said Ronnie Robinson, Jr., 31, inside a courtroom, about his own defense attorney.
Robinson was in court on Thursday for a hearing regarding several pending charges, including assault of a police officer. Just a few minutes after his court appearance, he was arrested again for the same crime.”I think you don’t understand that I can hire a court and have you sued, miss — for putting your hands on me! That’s abuse!” Robinson shouted at a county worker.Courtroom video also showed Robinson threatening to sue Jefferson County itself. Meanwhile, the judge tried to set a date for a mental evaluation.”Let’s set the date for tomorrow,” Robinson said.”No, we can’t,” the judge replied.”Would you like to set the date for tomorrow, sir?” Robinson asked his attorney.”You need to talk to me,” the judge replied. The judge eventually called for Robinson to be taken into custody. When sheriff’s deputies started handcuffing Robinson, that’s when the outburst began.”I’m going to hire both of them! I’m going to have both of them killed!” Robinson shouted. As he was led toward an elevator, you could still hear him shouting and struggling with the deputies — just off camera.
According to an arrest slip, Robinson became combative, so officers “had to take him to (the) floor and Tased him 2 times which had no effect. He then grabbed the Taser and (the officer’s) wrist cutting (the officer’s) finger.”Eventually, more deputies arrived to help subdue the man. He was then booked into jail for at least the fourth time this year.In addition to two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer, Robinson was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He’s next due in court in February.
