7 arrested after crowd disrupts traffic stop

ISTA, Calif. — San Diego County authorities say seven people have been arrested after a crowd tried to stop a deputy from ticketing a driver.

The deputy also used a stun gun on a passenger who allegedly attacked him.

The North County Times says the deputy pulled over the car Tuesday morning in Vista for a traffic violation and the unlicensed driver began calling people to come and help him.

Sgt. Mike Arens says the driver was being ticketed when he and the passenger began scuffling with the deputy, who used the stun gun on the passenger.

Authorities say about 25 people then showed up and tried to free the driver but dispersed when more deputies arrived.

The deputy received minor injuries.
